Shopify Variant Automation, Tested on Real Orders, Not Demos
Shopify variant automation builds and maintains product options without hours of clicking: size and colour grids, extra options such as engraving or material, SKU and barcode rules, and prices per variant. Shopify now allows up to 2,048 variants per product but still only three options, so structure matters. We generate variants from your source data, name SKUs consistently and handle the fourth-option problem, from $290.
- Variant grids generated from your data with consistent SKU and barcode rules
- Price and weight rules per option value
- Fourth-option cases handled by splitting products or an app
- Test log and a recorded handover

A Decade of Shopify Stores Behind Every Automation We Build.
More than 450 launches since 2015 showed us what breaks and when. That is why every build starts with a test plan and finishes with a log you can read.

Is Our Shopify Variant Automation Right for You? Six Typical Cases
Variants are where catalogues get messy. These are the cases we build for.
- You sell on Shopify today or soon
- Someone can approve the rules and the test
- You prefer a quote to an hourly meter
- You will own every account involved
Stores with big option grids
Up to 2,048 variants per product are allowed. We generate them rather than hand-create.
Owners who need a fourth option
Shopify still allows three options. We design a workaround.
Stores with price by size
Rules set price per option value.
Stores with SKU chaos
A naming pattern gives every variant a predictable SKU.
Stores with slow admin pages
Very large variant sets can slow admin work. We split sensibly.
Teams importing from suppliers
Supplier variants map to your options.
Six Faults a Careful Shopify Variant Automation Avoids
Variant faults compound across the catalogue. These are the six faults we fix.
Options in inconsistent order
Size then colour on one product, colour then size on another. We standardise.
Hitting the three-option limit
We restructure.
Duplicate variants
We match.
SKU collisions
We enforce uniqueness.
Wrong prices by size
We apply rules.
Slow editing
We split.

What Happens When a product gets a new size
All automations follow the same path. An event arrives, the rules decide what applies, the action runs and the result is logged where your merchandising team can see it. The map shows the pieces we build and test before handover.
Our Store Work Behind Your Automation
Automations sit behind the storefront, so here is the storefront we build. Picture each store below with variants and options working quietly in the background.

Six stages, in order. Nothing touches live orders until you have seen it work on a copy, and your calculator choices decide how long each stage takes.
- 1
Brief and rules
We ask how variants and options works today, who does what and where it goes wrong. Together we write each rule in plain words: when a product gets a new size, then add the variant with price and SKU.
- 2
Access and platform
You grant limited access to Shopify and the other tools. We pick a platform, show the monthly cost and confirm the link with a live read.
- 3
Map the data
Together we map option name, option value, SKU and price, confirm the formats on each side and decide what happens to blanks.
- 4
Build in a copy
Nothing is built on live orders. The workflow runs on test data first, and you see the plan, plus a recording if useful.
- 5
Test on real cases
We run a new size, a sold-out colour and a renamed option, then refunds and edits, and verify each outcome against what the store shows.
- 6
Go live and hand over
When you say go, the workflow goes live. We watch the first runs and leave you notes, a diagram and a recorded walkthrough.

What Keeps Your Store and Data Safe
Automations act on live orders and customer data, so mistakes are costly. These practices come with every package and explain why a fixed fee can still be a careful one.
Counts compared, not assumed
Every catch-up ends with a count against the source, which catches gaps and doubles quickly.
A written definition of done
The workflow counts as finished only when a new size, a sold-out colour and a renamed option all pass and are logged.
Nothing sent without approval
No message to a customer goes live until you have read and approved it.
Failures raise a flag
A failed run alerts a named person with the order and the reason. Silence never means success.
Plain scope, two revision rounds
Price first, then two structured revision rounds for anything in scope, so no tweak becomes a surprise charge.
Build in a copy, never live
We never build on live data: the workflow is tested on test records and your real orders and variants wait for your approval.
Build Your Variants and Options Package
Choose a package, tell us which platform you prefer, how busy the store is and how many tools are involved, then pick a speed. The fixed price and delivery window update with each selection.
Request a custom quote
If your case involves a private API, unusual authentication, several stores or more than ten thousand orders a month, send a short brief and we will quote it as a fixed-price project.

What You Get From Us That a Template Does Not
You are paying for judgement and for a result you can inspect, not for hours.
4.9+ from verified clients
Every review on this page is from a verified Store Design Expert client, which lets you see how projects went first.
A direct line to the builder
You message the person who has your workflow open. Questions about a rule or a field get a straight answer.
Tested on your real cases
Your real scenarios are the test plan: a new size, a sold-out colour and a renamed option.
We live inside Shopify
Orders, refunds, edits and metafields are daily work for us. That is a different skill from knowing an automation tool's menus.
A price you can plan around
The calculator shows the price and extra days for every package and option. Platform subscriptions come from the platform, and we say what to expect.
Safety designed in
Safety is standard: retries, alerts, unique keys and narrow access are part of each build.
Getting Started: What We Ask For
Three things get the work moving: safe access, a few answers and a decision-maker. Here is the detail.
Approve a collaborator request
Selling already? Send the address and accept a collaborator request. You keep ownership, we get a limited role, and you can revoke it at any moment.
Starting from nothing? We build first
No store yet? We build it in our Partner account, set up the workflow there and transfer the whole store to you, so you choose a plan only at the end.
Or share a staff login
A staff account is an option. The collaborator route is still better, as it can be cancelled instantly and involves no shared password.
Access to the other tools
You can invite us to each connected tool, or we can open accounts with your email. Either way, ownership is yours.
Examples of the work today
Two or three recent cases are enough. They show us how the process runs in practice.
A decision-maker
Tell us who approves the rules and the test, and what should happen when two rules disagree.
We never need your owner password or payment details. Access is limited, logged and removable at any time.

Shopify Variant Automation FAQs
Everything owners ask us before booking.
How much does Shopify variant automation cost?
Single Automation costs $490, Core Automations $990 and Full Automation Set $1790. Platform, volume, the number of connected tools and add-ons change the total, and the calculator shows it before you pay. Most projects land between about $490 and $2510, with delivery from 3 to 14 working days. Queries such as "shopify variant make.com" lead to the same build.
How long does variants and options automation take?
Single Automation takes 3 to 6 working days, Core Automations 5 to 9 and Full Automation Set 8 to 14. The usual variables are how many tools are involved and how quickly you approve the rules and the test. The Sooner and Fastest options shorten the schedule when a date is fixed. If you typed "shopify variant zapier", you are in the right place.
How many variants can a Shopify product have?
Up to 2,048, raised from 100, according to Shopify's changelog. The same job is behind "shopify variant workflow".
How many options can a product have?
Three, unchanged. Queries such as "best product variant app for shopify" describe the same work. The same service covers "shopify variant n8n".
What if I need a fourth option?
Split into separate products, use an app or theme code. People also search for "variant upload image shopify admin api"; the work is the same. Searches like "shopify variant expert" describe the same work.
Is there a media limit?
One source says 250 files per product. If you came here from "shopify bulk edit variants", this is the page for it. Searches like "hire shopify variant developer" point to this service.
Can variants be generated automatically?
Yes, from your data. The same service covers "shopify variant inventory policy". You may also see it searched as "shopify variant app"; this page covers that too.
Can SKUs follow a pattern?
Yes. This also answers "shopify variant automation zapier". Searches like "variant automation shopify" point to this service.
Can you restructure existing variants?
Yes, carefully. If you typed "how to automate variant on shopify", you are in the right place.
