OpenThis statement explains the practices we follow when working in your Shopify store and handling your files.
Last updated: October 10, 2026.
This statement describes security practices at Store Design Expert. They exist to protect your store, your customers' information and your files while we work for you. It forms part of our commitment in the privacy policy and terms of service.
We never ask for your Shopify owner password. You invite us as a collaborator from your own admin. You choose what we can see and do, access is tied to our account and not to a shared login, and you can remove it at any time. We only ask for the permissions the job needs.
For theme work, we duplicate your theme and work in the copy. Your live store is not changed until you review and approve the result. For content and graphics, we work in files outside your store. A mistake in our work therefore cannot take down what your customers see.
Files you send are used only for the job they were sent for and are kept as the privacy policy describes. Please do not send passwords, card numbers or one-time codes in messages or forms. If something sensitive is needed, we will tell you the safer way to share it.
Payments go through our checkout and payment providers, which handle card details under their own security programs. We do not store full card numbers.
We keep project records, including written scopes and handover notes, in tools with access limited to the people who need them. We do not keep your store credentials.
If we learn of a security problem that affects your data or your store, we will tell you without undue delay, explain what happened and what we know, help limit the effect and work with you on next steps. We will also tell you what we need from you, such as changing a password or removing access.
No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that a security incident will never happen. Shopify, apps and other providers are responsible for the security of their own systems.

Collaborator, no password.
Not the live store.
And approve.
Any time.
Security is mostly about habits. These are the habits we follow on every project.
When you hire an agency, you are trusting someone with a business asset. We aim to make that trust easy to give by limiting what we need, working carefully and keeping you in control. This section explains the practices described in the statement above in everyday words. It is not a guarantee that any system is perfectly secure.
We never ask for your Shopify owner password. Instead, you invite us as a collaborator from your own Shopify admin. Collaborator access is controlled by you: you choose what we can see and do, the invitation is tied to our account rather than shared credentials, and you can remove us at any time. When the job ends, you can take us off the list.
For theme work, we duplicate your theme and work in the copy, so your live store is not touched until you have reviewed and approved the result. For work such as content and graphics, we work in files outside the store. Either way, a problem in our work cannot take down the page your customers see.
Files you send are used for the job they were sent for. Please send passwords, card numbers and other secrets through proper channels and not in messages or forms. If you are not sure what is safe to send, ask first.
Payments go through a secure checkout, so card details are handled by the payment provider and not stored in our project messages.
If a message asks you to share a password or a one-time code, treat it as suspicious, even if it appears to come from us. We will not ask for them.
You can apply these with us and with anyone else who works on your store.
Invite people from your admin instead of sharing the owner login.
Give access only to the areas the job needs and no more.
Turn on two-step sign-in for your own account and use a password manager.
Check the staff and collaborator list regularly and remove people whose work is finished.
Keep a copy of your theme and key data before big changes.
If something looks wrong, tell us straight away so we can look together.
Most store security problems are about access and habits. These steps cover most of the risk.
Checkout on Shopify is hosted and protected by Shopify, which handles card data under its own security program. That is one reason we do not edit checkout code on most plans. Your own habits matter around it.
Security is shared between you, us, Shopify and app vendors.
| Area | Who is responsible | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Your Shopify account | You | Strong sign-in, two-step authentication and a short staff list |
| Our work in your store | Us | A safe copy, tested changes and a written handover |
| Checkout and card data | Shopify and payment providers | Hosted and protected on their systems |
| Installed apps | App vendors, with your approval | We tell you what an app needs before installing it |
| Files you send | You and us | Used only for the job, and no passwords in messages |
| Removing access | You | Remove our collaborator account whenever you like |
Short answers to questions people often search for on this topic.
Shopify store security starts with two-step sign-in, strong unique passwords, a short staff list and regular app reviews. Shopify's hosted checkout protects card data, and your own habits protect the rest.
Shopify collaborator access security is stronger than sharing a password because access is tied to a named account, can be limited and can be removed at any time. Shopify agency security should always use collaborator access.
Shopify's best features for security include hosted infrastructure, secure checkout and payment handling by payment providers. Check Shopify's current documentation for details on its security program and hosting provider security.
Data security for businesses means protecting information with access control, careful sharing, backups and clear responsibilities. Data safety and security also includes training people to spot phishing and avoid sending secrets by message.
A statement of work on website security names what access is needed, how work is protected, what files are used and who is responsible for what. Our scope documents do this for each order.

Collaborator access is safer because it is tied to our account, can be limited to specific areas and can be removed without changing your own password. Sharing the owner password gives away full control and cannot be limited.
Passwords, card numbers, one-time codes and other secrets. If we need something sensitive, we use a safer method such as a collaborator invitation, and we will tell you which.
For theme work we work in a duplicate and publish only after you approve. Some changes, such as content entry, are made in the store as part of the agreed scope. The written scope says which.
Apps vary. We tell you what an app needs and what its plan costs before we install it, and we recommend removing apps you do not use. Each vendor is responsible for its own product.
We tell you promptly, help limit the effect and work with you on next steps. The statement above describes how incidents are handled.
Open your Shopify admin and review the staff and collaborator lists in settings. Remove anyone who no longer needs access.
